Projects
Colo Cooperative
In a nutshell, this is a project to securely and fairly share a co-located server with seven friends. All of us wanted hosting but humored the idea that other services can't be trusted on some level. Over a period of many months, we played with various threat models and solutions. The process itself was quite meticulous, mandating that each of us contribute to charters and contracts, and signing them digitally (via gpg). Legally, we can't screw each other. To be fair further, none of us have direct administrator access to the box, but rather only a secret share; a quorum of the secrets will be necessary for someone to gain privileged access. Grey Wagon
At some point, every developer fancies writing his own CMS or blog system, despite how much re-invention there is. This one is where new school meets old school, and black meets white. As a fan of textual interfaces, I'm focusing on a revision-control-like interface that allows managing, writing, and publishing articles on the filesystem, to the database, and ultimately served on the web ("2.0"). For this purpose, Grey Wagon will heavily revolve around web services. Tune in, as it'll be up soon under blog.
Anime Nook
Before crunchyroll.com and hulu.com gained popularity, my friends and I wanted a convenient way to read about and review good animes. Ultimately, we'd even be able to watch short episodes to get a taste for ourselves. The site would benefit from the application of good social-networking principles. The project started as a small Ruby on Rails application but has since lost steam. Maybe one day its phoenix ashes will yield something better.
